The Department of Posts is taking a big step toward modernizing India’s address system by creating a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for geo-coded addresses. At the heart of this initiative is DIGIPIN—a foundational layer designed to simplify addresses for smoother delivery of public and private services. This innovation aims to introduce “Address as a Service” (AaaS) nationwide, making location-based services more efficient and accessible.
Developed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad, NRSC, and ISRO, DIGIPIN is an open-source, national-level addressing grid that plays a crucial role in the country’s digital address ecosystem. With DIGIPIN, India is bridging the gap between physical locations and their digital identities, marking a transformative step in the nation’s digital journey.
